1) COCONUT GROVE
The Great Grove Bed Race. Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.; South Bayshore Drive at McFarlane Road, near Peacock Park. Are you ready for some mattress mayhem, or perhaps a bed-on collision? You may see both at this humorous race, as costumed five-member teams barrel their homemade beds on wheels through the streets. Awards will be given for the fastest, best décor, engineering, crowd favorite and funniest contraption. Jax Beer Week. This salute to craft beer,with an emphasis on Florida-based breweries, gets a kickoff at Engine 15 Brewing’s downtown location on Saturday and runs through Nov. 14. Eight breweries will be sampling beers, including Ancient City (St. Augustine’s newest brewer); and three beers brewed especially for the event will be tapped. Sarasota Medieval Fair. Runs three weekends, beginning Saturday, at Ringling Woods behind Sarasota Fairgrounds, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This festival is just like medieval times, except no gore and more fun with knights, jesters, minstrels, wenches, full-contact jousting and human-combat chess tournaments. Enjoy rides; feast on turkey legs; browse more than 100 shops plus food and snack booths; and witness the Scottish battle the English at the Battle of Bannockburn.
