Ladies and gentlemen grab your hats! The 8th Annual Mad Hatter Festival is just around the corner in Coconut Grove!
This fun event will take place from November 16-18 at The Barnacle and along Main Highway. Come and check out art from all different mediums.
The event kicks off with a fabulous Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, hosted by the Barnacle Society on Friday night from 6-9 pm. Tea party fare will be served and guests are invited to bring their favorite tea cups to the soiree. They needn’t fill the cup with tea, though; there will be a cash bar available. This party requires reservations and tickets cost $35 before November 9th and $40 afterwards.
Highlights will include the return of street painting in an exhibit titled, Chalk It Up! You can also see Watch Art Happen as artists paint in the open air throughout the weekend, capturing the spirit of the event. This will take place at specific areas all around the Grove. There will also be a drum circle to untie the community through rhythm. Saturday night includes an outdoor showing of Alice in Wonderland at 7 pm. (Tickets are $5 for 6 and up, $3 for ages 2-5 and free for babies.)
Of course, there is a reason this event is called the Mad Hatters, referencing Lewis Carol’s magnificent novel, Alice in Wonderland. Participants are invited to design and sport the wildest hat they can conjure up. There will be various hat contests for all ages.
Food options are plentiful. You can buy concessions from the Barnacle Society to benefit their preservation programs, or you can grab a map and venture out into other Grove restaurants offering special treats and deals in what is called Beyond the Looking Glass Grove Adventure. You are also welcome to bring your own picnic to the lawn of the Barnacle.
Like I said, grab your mad hats, and have a blast at The Barnacle!
